For many years, Pilates certification was not regulated by any kind of governing board or third party. That meant that just about anyone could teach Pilates, and just about anyone could hand out Pilates training certificates. Fortunately, all of that is in the process of changing. The National Organization for Competency Assurance, or NOCA, will now regulate Pilates certification. In order to receive NOCA approval, your training program and its accompanying certification have to meet high standards for curriculum, amount of training, etc.
Pilates Academy International has applied for NOCA accreditation. Once we receive it, certification students who graduate from our Academy will have the confidence of knowing that they have a terrific hiring tool. Gyms and studios greatly prefer hiring certified students. The International Health, Racquet and Sports Club Association, or IHRSA, will strongly advise its member gyms and clubs to hire only those Pilates instructors with NOCA approved certification.
Of course, a certificate is only a piece of paper, and a Pilates training program should give you much more than that. At Pilates Academy International, we provide intensive training to serious students. We require all of our certification students to have a teaching background in fitness, movement or dance. We also request two letters of recommendation. By accepting only the best certification students, we strengthen our commitment to producing only the best instructors.
In addition to a wealth of medical, anatomical, technical, and biomechanical knowledge, we teach our certification students how to simply be great teachers. Great teachers are engaging. They know how to motivate clients. They listen to clients' needs and actively help clients achieve their goals. Great teachers know how to motivate clients to work with the utmost passion and focus, while maintaining a safe, healthy environment They also know how to keep workouts fresh. At Pilates Academy International, we're committed to producing teachers like these.
