Pilates Certifications Taught In Japanese

Katherine and Kimberly Corp are the owners of Pilates on Fifth, and the founders of Pilates Academy International, the certification school headquartered at Pilates on Fifth. The Corp sisters are also fluent in Japanese. Before becoming professional Pilates instructors, the Corps majored in East Asian Studies at Duke University and did graduate work at Columbia University. With their BA in East Asian Studies and their Masters in International Affairs, the girls are truly unique in the Pilates world.

Their unique combination of skills enables them to regularly teach Pilates certification courses to Japanese students. In addition to offering Pilates certifications taught in Japanese, Kimberly and Katherine are actively working on a project to increase Pilates awareness in the Far East.

Fortunately for our Japanese students, the Corp sisters also happen to be fantastic Pilates certification instructors. They were first introduced to Pilates in their work as professional dancers, using Pilates to keep them injury-free. As dancers, the Corp twins have performed at Radio City as Rockettes, and danced in such films as "The Stepford Wives" and "Little Manhattan." They opened Pilates on Fifth in 2000, and began teaching STOTT PILATES® certification courses in 2001. In 2005, they opened Pilates Academy International.

The Academy actively works with the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine, as well as independent chiropractors and kinesiologists, to give students a firm, medically based understanding of Pilates. The more our certification students know about anatomy and biomechanics, the better (and safer) their classes will be. Our goal is to produce the most knowledgeable, motivated, and skilled Pilates instructors possible.
